ABOUT
About ListeningCheck
An independent Indian-English numbers-in-noise project.
ListeningCheck explores how people recognise spoken numbers against background noise, using Indian-English recordings.
This public version does not provide a diagnosis or classify hearing as normal or abnormal.
Development and team
ListeningCheck is built by an independent team combining clinical audiology, neuroscience, mathematics and AI systems development, each with over a decade of experience. It is an independent project of its developers and does not represent any employer or institution.
How the activity works
You enter three numbers heard in noise. The difficulty changes with your answers. The score estimates the speech-to-noise ratio associated with about half of the sets being correct. Headphones, settings, surroundings and attention can affect the score. The underlying materials and methods are proprietary and will be described in our scientific publications.
Validation status
This version is a public beta. Clinical validation is in its final step. The recordings have undergone pilot-based level adjustment. Scores are not classified as normal, abnormal, pass, or fail, and the activity does not by itself diagnose hearing loss.
What this is, and is not
It is a listening activity: a quick, informal estimate of your performance on a numbers-in-noise task. It is not a medical diagnosis, a clinical audiogram, or a substitute for assessment by a qualified audiologist or ENT specialist. If you have sudden hearing loss, hearing loss in one ear only, ear pain, discharge, or new dizziness, please seek medical care promptly. For more information, or help understanding your result, contact a hearing-care professional or the ListeningCheck team at [email protected].

HELP
A few simple answers.
What to prepare, what your score means, and what to do next.
If you have sudden hearing loss, hearing loss in one ear only, ear pain, discharge, or new dizziness, see a doctor promptly regardless of any score.
What do I need?
Stereo headphones, both earpieces, and a quiet room. Turn off mono and spatial audio. Do not use speakers.
What does the score mean?
It describes your performance on this numbers-in-noise activity. More-negative scores mean better task performance, not proof of normal hearing.
Is this a diagnosis?
No. This activity does not diagnose hearing loss or replace a professional assessment.
Is my result saved?
Your answers and score are processed in your browser. They are sent to the research service only if you choose to contribute and press Submit. See Privacy for browser identifiers, hosting and contact information.
What next?
Save your summary if you wish. For hearing concerns, seek a professional assessment regardless of the score.
